Habitat – Native to eastern and tropical Asia, Australia, and the Pacific islands.
Habit – Medium-sized, fast-growing, deciduous tree that can reach heights of 15-25 meters. It has a broad, spreading crown.
Bark – Bark is grey-brown, rough, and fissured. It can exude a reddish-brown gum when cut.
Leaves – Compound, imparipinnate, and alternately arranged. They typically have 5-7 leaflets that are ovate or elliptic, glossy green on the upper surface, and paler below.
Inflorescence – Raceme, bearing flowers in clusters. These racemes are axillary or terminal.
Flower – Bisexual, fragrant, and usually pink, white, or purplish. They have a typical leguminous structure with a keel, wings, and standard petals. The flowering occurs in dense clusters.
Fruit and Seed – Flat, woody pod that is 5-7 cm long and 2-3 cm wide, containing one to two seeds. The seeds are brown, ovoid, and contain a high oil content.
Flowering and Fruiting Time – Flowering Time from April to June. Fruiting Time from August to November.
Usage – In traditional medicine for treating skin diseases, rheumatism, and wounds. The wood is used for making agricultural tools and other implements.
