Botanical Name – Terminalia pyrifolia Kurz.

Family Name – Combretaceae

Habitat – Native to South and Southeast Asia. Its range extends across countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia the Philippines and Myanmar.

Habit – Medium to large-sized tree that can reach heights of up to 25 meters. The tree has a straight and tall trunk with a rounded crown of foliage.

Bark – Rough and grayish-brown. It becomes fissured and scaly as the tree matures.

Leaves – Simple, alternate, and lance-shaped, 10-20 cm long and have a leathery texture, dark green and glossy, they often have a wavy margin.

Inflorescence – Small clusters, racemes and can be up to 10 cm long.

Flower – Small and typically greenish-white or cream-colored, five petals and are often inconspicuous.

Fruit – A drupe, fleshy, a hard, woody shell, oval or pear-shaped, resembling a small almond, initially green but turns brown as it ripens.

Seed – A drupe, hard, woody shell, about 3 to 4 centimeters, brown, oval or pear-shaped.

Flowering and Fruiting Time – Flowering time from January to March and fruiting time from March to June.

Usage – Wood is used for veneer, furniture, cabinetry, and flooring.
